Let’s talk about you and some leadership attributes. Are you already bored? Me too. That’s why this is not going to be one of “those” posts. They are all over the internet. Some of them are very good, and some aren’t. This one is about you, your ego, and your bank account. We will be focusing on network marketing, but these elements will be applicable to almost any business in which you’re trying to succeed, i.e. earning some serious money for a change.
The first thing you need to look at is yourself. Why? Because if you’re not earning what you want to be earning, it’s usually because you’re not managing yourself and your actions. It’s having a professional mindset vs. a poverty mindset. After an honest evaluation of yourself and your actions, if you’ve had a poverty mindset, you can change it in a New York minute. Make a decision. Do you want things to be different? Yes or No. If yes, then you need to do things differently and learn to manage yourself. Easier said then done? Probably, but remember this. Do things always have to be easy and risk-free before you can do them? Of course not. If you’re living paycheck to paycheck and have been in debt for some time, is that easy and without any risk?
If someone hired you for a job and you had to do certain things to keep your job, you would either you do those things, or you’d be out of a job. If you’re not doing the daily actions you need to do to be successful, then in essence you’ve quit and just haven’t acknowledged it yet. That is you stopping yourself. You’re in your own way and most likely ego has something to do with it. If your bank account doesn’t reflect your true desire, why aren’t you doing something about it? Maybe you’re waiting for the finance fairy to drop some dough into your account. Keep waiting.
Let’s talk about ego. Maybe you think that doesn’t apply to you. Well, let’s see. If you’re having trouble managing yourself and your actions, you’re making yourself the issue instead of focusing on how you can serve others. Some of those people you’re supposed to be talking to desperately need your opportunity, but you’re too busy trying to coax yourself daily into doing some work. The focus is all on you. This isn’t hard to fix, just write out your daily plan of action and do it. And don’t worry, well-intentioned people will be on hand periodically to distract you from your daily action plan, but those with a professional mindset always do what they have planned to do. They get the job done, period.
Other attributes of leaders are continued personal growth, the development of skills, and service to others. If you acquire these leadership attributes, you’ll be on the road less traveled to network marketing success (or any business success for that matter.) If you stay honest with yourself and periodically re-evaluate your actions versus your goals, you will avoid the rocky road on which so many well-intentioned networkers have either stalled out on or run into a ditch.
